Blessing Bags Brigade has made a significant impact in Metro Detroit by distributing over 58,000 essential bags in partnership with 16 local organizations. Collaborating with The Wave Project, they established five 24/7 pantries for hygiene products, and with Bombas, they distributed over 37,000 pairs of socks. Their hygiene bags address hygiene poverty, boosting health, self-esteem, and opportunities. They fill gaps in government assistance, providing critical hygiene products. They also support homebound seniors with activity bags to combat isolation and depression, and children in transition with comfort and birthday bags to manage stress and make them feel celebrated. Through these initiatives, Blessing Bags Brigade enhances community well-being.
Since 1977, CARE of Southeastern Michigan has been a leader in substance use prevention and recovery services, providing real-life solutions from early childhood to adulthood. This accredited, award-winning nonprofit has trained 11,412 adults through behavioral health assessments and counseling, and connected 1,804 individuals to community resources. CARE focuses on strengthening individual well-being and promoting resiliency, offering programs that reduce risky behaviors and encourage positive community engagement. Their services include parent education, youth programs, clinical treatment, peer recovery, and employee assistance programs. CARE’s Peer Recovery Coach Program offers professional and emotional support to individuals on their recovery journey, ensuring each path is easier with the right support. The Recovery United Community Center is a testament to their commitment to helping individuals find and stay on their recovery path.

For over 40 years, Community First Health Centers has positively impacted St. Clair and Macomb Counties by providing comprehensive community-based health and human services. Established in 1975, this NCQA-recognized Patient-Centered Medical Home offers a wide range of services, including primary health care, behavioral health care, transportation services, and support for the homeless. They also provide lab and X-ray services, maternal infant health programs, and WIC services, ensuring all community members receive quality care. With private and public funding, Community First Health Centers emphasizes physical, mental, and emotional health, using language translation services as needed. As a Health Center Program grantee and an equal opportunity provider, they remain committed to improving health outcomes for all.
Community Housing Network (CHN) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preventing homelessness and providing housing assistance in Southeast Michigan. They employ proven strategies to offer emergency housing, affordable and subsidized housing, long- and short-term housing, and supportive services. CHN also provides homeownership programs, financial education classes, and advocates for affordable housing development. Their Projects for Assistance in Transition from Homelessness (PATH) initiative offers outreach services in Oakland and Macomb counties, ensuring those experiencing on-the-street homelessness receive essential support. With nearly 900 units of affordable housing developed, CHN transforms communities by turning blighted areas into thriving neighborhoods, promoting equal access to safe and stable homes for all.
Compassion Pregnancy Center, Macomb County’s only medical pregnancy resource center, has been providing free services to clients for the past 25 years. The center offers lab-grade pregnancy tests, ultrasounds to determine gestational age and viability, and comprehensive information on abortion methods and options. Their medical wing specializes in supporting those experiencing unplanned pregnancies, while their education wing mentors and supports individuals who decide to carry their baby to term. Compassion Pregnancy Center also provides education on fetal development, parenting, and healthy relationships, empowering women and men to make informed decisions and offering material goods to support them throughout their journey.
Comprehensive Youth Services, Inc. (CYS) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing essential community services in Macomb County and Southeast Michigan for over 50 years. Staffed by compassionate professionals and volunteers, CYS offers outpatient treatment for chemical dependency and mental health problems through Clinton Counseling Center, shelter and counseling for runaway and homeless youth through Family Youth Interventions, and safe emergency shelter via The Harbor. Their Jail Substance Abuse Program is state-licensed and CARF-accredited, ensuring high-quality care. CYS focuses on education, training, and support to help individuals improve their lives and repair family relationships, fostering a brighter future for young people and their families.

Four County Community Foundation has been helping communities grow for over 37 years, serving Southeast Lapeer County, Northwest St. Clair County, Northwest Macomb County, and Northeast Oakland County in Michigan. The foundation supports a variety of causes through numerous funds, including the Hana St. Juliana Memorial Fund and the Forever Justin Shilling Foundation, both established to honor the victims of the Oxford High School shooting and support preventive initiatives and conservation efforts. Additionally, the Woods-N-Water News Outdoor Foundation, Feeding Families Forever Fund, and 4CCF Mental Health Fund provide grants and support for outdoor projects, food programs, and mental health services. Through these diverse initiatives, Four County Community Foundation plays a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life for residents across the region.
Gianna House supports at-risk pregnant women and young mothers through education, life skills training, and safe housing, aiming to transition them to independence. Founded by Sister Diane Masson, Gianna House provides residential accommodations for women aged 18-25 and a community outreach program offering parenting classes, material support, and personal development. Inspired by Gianna Beretta Molla, who chose her child’s life over her own, the organization relies on community volunteers and donations to serve its mission. Located in Eastpointe, Michigan, Gianna House focuses on physical, emotional, and educational care, offering a comprehensive support system for mothers and children to foster independence and self-worth.
Founded over 20 years ago, God’s Girlz is a dedicated group of twelve individuals committed to supporting homeless individuals and families transitioning to stable housing through MCREST’s Supportive Housing program. Originating from a Bible study group, they felt compelled to extend their support to the community by addressing a critical gap: the need for essential household items to furnish new homes. They collect and provide gently used items, such as kitchenware and bedding, to ensure families have the necessities for a fresh start. Beyond material donations, God’s Girlz offers hope and dignity, transforming empty houses into welcoming homes and providing stability and security to families in need.
Established in 1942, Grace Centers of Hope is one of the largest faith-based, long-term life skills programs in southeast Michigan, dedicated to aiding those affected by homelessness, chemical dependency, and abuse. Without any government funding, GCH provides shelter and healing through a Christian-based approach, emphasizing personal accountability and community support. Their mission is to transform lives through the Gospel of Jesus Christ, life skills education, and work-related programs. Centered around Grace Gospel Fellowship Church, GCH envisions providing hope, jobs, and stability to its residents for many years to come.
Great Start Collaborative-Macomb’s mission is to coordinate resources and supports to improve early childhood outcomes for children from prenatal through age eight. Their vision is for every child in Macomb County to be safe, healthy, and eager to succeed in school and beyond. The Family Coalition, part of this initiative, connects Macomb County parents to local resources and activities to support child development. Programs like “Talking is Teaching” encourage parents to talk, read, and sing to their children to build brain development. The Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP) offers high-quality, play-based preschool experiences, adhering to Michigan State Board of Education standards to prepare children for kindergarten.
HOPE Shelters provides safe and judgment-free shelter, innovative programs, and public advocacy to end homelessness. Committed to helping each guest resolve their homelessness through a trauma-informed approach, HOPE offers “Low-Barrier” Emergency Shelter and Recuperative Care Shelter. Their services include comprehensive case management to help guests obtain identification, mental health services, and permanent housing. HOPE collaborates with community partners to offer embedded services such as medical, behavioral, and employment support. The Recuperative Care Shelter offers a “discharge to home” option for individuals experiencing homelessness, providing patient monitoring, education, and intensive case management to ensure a safe recovery and connection to essential resources. Through advocacy, HOPE identifies and fills gaps in services, creating necessary programs to support their guests in transitioning to stable housing and improving their overall well-being.
Macomb Community Action (MCA) is part of a national network of over 1000 local organizations dedicated to helping individuals move from poverty to economic stability and self-sufficiency. MCA is committed to diminishing the effects of poverty through inclusive and effective services that support and empower individuals while preserving their dignity and promoting independence. MCA’s mission is to ensure stability and thriving for all in a diverse and equitable Macomb County by treating everyone with respect, embracing diversity, promoting cultural competence, valuing input from service users, addressing accessibility barriers, and advocating for policy change. MCA offers a variety of services including the Community Food Bank, emergency services, Head Start 0-5, housing services, warming/cooling centers, water assistance (WRAP), and more to support the community’s needs.
Macomb County Community Mental Health (MCCMH) offers comprehensive mental health, substance use, and developmental disability treatment services to residents of Macomb County, Michigan. Available 24/7, their crisis line (586-307-9100) ensures immediate support for those in urgent need. For guidance and help during business hours, you can call their customer service line at 855-99-MCCMH (855-996-2264), where insurance is not required, and initial conversations may take up to half an hour. MCCMH provides a wide range of services, including treatment for mental illness, support for children with emotional disturbances, services for individuals with developmental disabilities, substance use disorder treatment, crisis services, veteran support, autism services, and integrated health. Their dedicated team is committed to helping individuals navigate their mental health journey with the necessary support and resources.
Macomb Family Services offers personalized, affordable, and proven support through mental health counseling, substance abuse treatment, and residential services. With over 60 years of experience, they provide tailored services backed by research, accepting most insurances and offering a sliding payment scale. Their mental health services focus on empowering individuals to create positive changes through diverse counseling approaches. Their substance abuse programs address addiction’s root causes with both individual and group therapy, and they collaborate with schools for preventative education. Additionally, their residential services support developmentally disabled adults in a nurturing environment, helping them develop social skills and independence.
The Macomb County Winter Shelter offers a crucial lifeline during the cold months, providing warm, safe overnight accommodations and daily meals from 7 pm to 7 am, starting November 3rd through March 22nd. With around 130 emergency beds currently available, the shelter aims to address the critical shortage of space that leaves many individuals without a safe place to stay. Through a collaboration of churches and community leaders, the shelter not only offers warmth and food but also fosters hope and a sense of community. Guests are welcomed on a first-come basis with intake from 7 pm to 9 pm, and late admissions are permitted for those working. Donations and support are essential to help combat the rising homelessness crisis and ensure these vital services continue.
Mary’s Mantle is a Catholic residential program dedicated to supporting homeless expectant women, promoting the dignity of life through a faith-based and caring environment. Established in 2010, Mary’s Mantle has provided a safe haven for over 80 women and their children, offering housing, a live-in housemother, case management, and 24-hour staffing. The program focuses on the spiritual, emotional, physical, educational, and vocational well-being of both mother and child, helping them transition into motherhood and integrate into the community. With a commitment to witnessing the love of Christ, Mary’s Mantle connects expectant mothers to community resources and local churches, ensuring they receive comprehensive support and guidance. As one of the only Catholic maternity homes in the metro-Detroit area, Mary’s Mantle continues to be a vital resource, often with a waiting list of 5-15 women seeking their compassionate care.
MATTS
The Salvation Army MATTS is a goal-based shelter providing housing, meals, clothing, and extensive case management to men, women, and children in Macomb County. With an average stay of 90 days, MATTS prioritizes individuals with Macomb County IDs and operates as a drug and alcohol-free emergency residential unit. Residents receive comprehensive support services including case management, counseling, medical care, and financial assistance, ensuring they have the resources needed to transition out of homelessness. Additionally, MATTS offers community services such as a hot lunch program, AA meetings, and referrals to other agencies, fostering a supportive environment for all guests. Dedicated to helping individuals regain stability, MATTS is a crucial resource in Macomb County’s network of support for those in need.
For over a century, Planned Parenthood has been a trusted provider of sexual and reproductive health care, advocating for individuals’ rights to make informed, independent decisions. Planned Parenthood of Michigan operates health centers across the state, delivering high-quality, compassionate care to people of all ages, gender identities, national origins, races, and sexual orientations. Their mission is to advance health equity and provide nonjudgmental, comprehensive sexual and reproductive health care and education, including abortion services. By reflecting on their history and collaborating with community partners, they strive to build a just society where everyone can achieve their highest quality of life. Offering confidential and affordable care, Planned Parenthood of Michigan has been a vital resource for nearly 100 years, ensuring that health care is accessible to all.
Susie Q’s Kids, Inc. is dedicated to providing comfort bags to children in need, including those battling illness, in foster care, shelters, or dealing with grief and trauma. Each comfort bag is thoughtfully packed with items to bring comfort and joy: a soft bear to cuddle, a fuzzy blanket to stay warm, hygiene items to refresh, inspirational items to motivate, and activities like journals, coloring books, and games to make challenging moments easier to manage. Founded in honor of Susan McBride (Susie Q), a remarkable young woman who dedicated her life to helping others despite her own medical challenges, Susie Q’s Kids continues her mission to comfort children in difficult situations. Her legacy of positivity and kindness lives on through this organization, which provides comfort bags to kids in hospitals, foster care, shelters, and those experiencing grief. MCREST is proud to partner with Susie Q’s Kids, ensuring that children in our care receive the comfort and support they need. Susie’s legacy of compassion and kindness continues to make a difference, one comfort bag at a time.
Turning Point provides crucial support to individuals affected by domestic violence, sexual violence, and human trafficking. Dedicated to creating a just and equitable society, Turning Point offers comprehensive, confidential services to honor the unique needs of survivors. Their emergency shelter provides a secure haven for over 500 survivors and their children annually, offering 24-hour advocacy and support in a safe, handicap-accessible environment. In addition to shelter, Turning Point provides forensic nursing, legal advocacy, and supportive counseling, addressing the full spectrum of survivor needs. With a commitment to community action and survivor empowerment, Turning Point continues to make a significant impact in the fight against violence and oppression.
Uplift Family Services is dedicated to empowering families by providing them with the resources needed to create healthy lifestyles and make a positive impact in their communities. Serving Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties, their Maternal Infant Health Program offers a wide range of services to support mothers and families. These include nutritional counseling, WIC support and referrals, breastfeeding and childbirth education, postpartum counseling, and family planning assistance. Uplift Family Services also provides resources for car seats, baby items, food bank assistance, and quarterly parenting classes, ensuring comprehensive support for families in need. By enrolling today, families can access these vital resources and join a community committed to fostering health and empowerment.
Vets Returning Home is a dedicated nonprofit organization focused on ending chronic homelessness among veterans by addressing their comprehensive needs. Operating from a 11,000-square-foot facility, the organization provides a stable and sober environment with 43 beds, including six reserved for female veterans. Their mission goes beyond simply providing shelter; they offer critical onsite services such as employment readiness training, job placement assistance, disability benefit support, legal aid, and life skills training. As a volunteer-run operation, Vets Returning Home relies entirely on community support, receiving no government funding. Their efforts have made a significant impact, successfully transitioning an average of 250 veterans per year into stable and productive lives. With around 4,000 veterans in crisis in Michigan, and 45% suffering from PTSD, Vets Returning Home continues to be a crucial resource for veterans in need.
Established in 2018, the WAVE Project (Welcoming All Valuing Everyone) is a grassroots nonprofit dedicated to addressing homelessness in Metro Detroit. With a mission to share love by providing shelter, mobile showers, and essential items, WAVE Project operates a range of services including a mobile shower unit, a clothing closet, and food pantries. Recognizing the critical need for hygiene services, they offer a custom mobile shower trailer equipped with private stalls, providing over 300 showers monthly. In addition, they manage the Macomb County Winter Shelter to offer warm, safe overnight accommodations during cold months. The organization was born from a desire to build relationships and directly meet community needs, driven by a committed team and generous supporters. Their impactful work not only meets immediate needs but also fosters dignity and hope among those they serve.
